The SolutionExchange platform is a digital innovation brokerage space, established with the goal of fostering innovation in the Free State province by supporting the interactive process. The platform serves to connect the various role-players in the innovation value chain. It does this by providing a channel of communication for community members, enabling partnerships through a brokerage process, and by providing a space for targeted innovation-related advertising and information.
Role and Activities
The SolutionExchange platform provides 5 virtual spaces for communication between potential role-players:
- By registering, members identify themselves within the innovation value-chain and make themselves available for conversation around innovative projects and business ideas for the province.
- The ‘Innovators help desk’ allows a member to log a problem with the development of an innovative product/project. The member can then opt to request a solution from registered members or request that the SolutionExchange task team acts as an intermediary in a partnering process.
- The ‘Calls to Innovators’ consists of virtual “billboard” space that allows organisations (Government bodies/Universities/Funding entities/Businesses) to make official calls to the community for proposed innovative solutions. A call (or advert) requesting participation may include bursaries and scholarships around innovation, innovation competitions, innovation-related job vacancies, skills development workshops, innovation-related grants or funds, etc.
- The ‘Innovation Notice Board’ provides a social media spaces where registered members get to post general comments around issues pertaining to innovation and challenges they identify in the Free State province. Members can see when new members join the community and an option to make contact is available.
